As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, Google requires most businesses to verify their Google My Business (GMB) listings by receiving a postcard at their physical address. The postcard contains a verification code that needs to be entered in the GMB account to complete the verification process.
While the postcard method is the most common way to verify a GMB listing, there are a few exceptions where alternative verification methods may be available. These exceptions typically apply to businesses that have a high volume of locations or have already verified their business with Google in the past.
Some alternative verification methods that might be available for eligible businesses include:
- Phone Verification: In some cases, Google may offer phone verification as an option instead of a postcard. You would need to select this option during the verification process and provide a phone number associated with your business. If eligible, Google will send an automated phone call or text message with a verification code.
